Daily Water Intake Calculator
Daily Water Intake Calculator estimates how much water to aim for based on your body weight, activity level and climate, then lets you track what you have actually drunk through the day.
How to use it
- Enter your weight and choose lbs/oz or kg/ml units.
- Pick your activity level, from sedentary through athlete.
- Pick your climate: temperate, hot or humid, or cool.
- Read the target and log glasses as you drink them.
How the estimate is built
The common starting point is roughly half your body weight in pounds, expressed in fluid ounces. At 170 pounds that is about 85 ounces before adjustments.
Activity and climate then adjust it. Exercise adds fluid loss through sweat and breathing, and hot or humid conditions add more. Cold climates reduce the requirement slightly but not as much as people expect, because cold air is dry and you still lose water breathing.
Worked example
The default profile:
- Weight170 lbs
- Baselineabout 85 oz
- Activityadjusted upward with training load
- Climateadjusted upward in heat
Result: A daily target in ounces, with the tracker counting what you have logged against it.
When it helps
- Setting a concrete target instead of guessing.
- Adjusting intake on training days or in hot weather.
- Tracking through the day so you notice a shortfall before the evening.
- Building a habit with a visible count.
Common mistakes
- Treating the target as a hard requirement. Food contributes a meaningful share of daily fluid, and thirst is a reasonable guide for most healthy people.
- Drinking a very large volume in a short time rather than spreading it out.
- Counting only plain water. Tea, coffee and most drinks contribute too.
What this tool handles
- This is a general guideline, not medical advice. Anyone with a kidney, heart or fluid-restriction condition should follow their doctor's guidance instead.
