Your yard

Simple yard · not to scale

Give every spot a place.

Start with a simple map of your yard. Place spots by hand, using your house and fence as guides.

Phone GPS gives a search area. Confirm each spot by sight.
Tap the map to choose a spot.
Adjust marker
Drag the marker on the map, or nudge 1 ft per tap.
Grid snapping records which part of the yard instead of pretending to know the exact inch. Good when GPS is rough.

Backups contain precise locations. Keep them private. Clearing browser data can erase your yard.

Preparing offline use…

All data stays on this device. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Saved spots

Choose a fixed view: stand at the front and face the back of your yard. Walk the corners clockwise: back left, back right, front right, front left. Hold still for 5–10 seconds at each corner. The map does not rotate with your phone.

Calibrate your yard
Stand at the corner shown below, hold your phone still, and capture. The app averages several GPS readings per corner instead of trusting a single one. Tap any saved corner to redo just that one.
Sampling…

Corners saved. GPS and corner errors still affect the map. Use sight to correct each spot.

About this tool

Dog Poop Tracker

Dog Poop Tracker maps where your dog has gone in the yard using GPS, so cleanup is a route rather than a search. Markers can be added, corrected and cleared, and everything is stored on your device.

How to use it

  1. Start with a simple yard map, or use Yard setup to capture four GPS corners.
  2. Press Mark when your dog goes, and the position is recorded.
  3. Select a spot and tap Mark cleaned as you pick up. Undo reverses an accidental cleanup.
  4. Drag or nudge a marker if the fix was poor.

Why phone GPS needs the extra work

Phone GPS can be wrong by many feet, especially near buildings and trees. Even a steady reading cannot reliably identify a small object. Use the map as a reminder and confirm the spot by sight.

The tool filters recent readings and rejects outliers. The estimate keeps the device-reported accuracy as a floor. Shaded areas also include known corner error. These are search areas, not a promise that a small object is inside them. Hand placement is often more useful in a small yard.

When it helps

  • Finding everything in a large or overgrown yard.
  • Cleaning up after dark, when searching visually does not work.
  • Exporting a backup to transfer the yard to another device (there is no automatic sync).
  • Keeping track across a few days between cleanups.

Common mistakes

  • Treating a GPS estimate as an exact spot. Use Place on map whenever the position looks wrong.
  • Calibrating corners in a hurry. The yard transform depends on those four points and errors propagate to every marker.
  • Expecting pinpoint precision under heavy tree cover, where consumer GPS simply cannot deliver it.

What this tool handles

  • Location data stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded, and the app needs location permission only while you are using it.
