Hangman
Hangman is the classic word guessing game with category hints, selectable difficulty, full keyboard input, and stats that persist between sessions. Guess the hidden word one letter at a time before you run out of attempts.
How to use it
- Pick a category, or leave it on the default for a mixed word list.
- Type a letter or click it on the on-screen keyboard.
- Correct letters fill into the word. Wrong letters cost you one of your remaining attempts.
- Press New Word to start again. Your win and loss record carries over.
Strategy that actually works
Open with vowels. E, A, and O appear in the overwhelming majority of English words, and knowing the vowel skeleton narrows the possibilities faster than anything else.
Then go after the common consonants in roughly the order R, S, T, L, N. After that, use the pattern rather than frequency: a word ending in double letters, or a visible -ING or -TION, tells you far more than the next most common letter would.
