Join Lines
Turn separate lines into one string with your own separator.
Join Lines
Join Lines collapses multiple lines into a single line, separated by whatever delimiter you choose: a comma, a space, a pipe, or anything else.
How to use it
- Paste your list, one item per line.
- Set the separator you want between items.
- Copy the joined result.
Choosing a separator
The separator has to be a character that does not appear inside your data. Joining a list of full names with a comma is fine until one entry is Smith, John, at which point the result is ambiguous and cannot be split back.
Comma and space suit prose. Pipe or tab suit data, because they rarely occur naturally. If your values might contain the separator, they need quoting, which is exactly the problem CSV formats exist to solve.
Worked example
Why the separator has to be absent from the data:
- ValuesSmith, John and Doe, Jane
- Joined with a commafour items, not two
- Joined with a pipetwo items, unambiguous
Result: Pick a character your data does not contain, or the result cannot be split back.
When it helps
- Turning a column copied from a spreadsheet into a comma-separated list.
- Building an SQL IN clause from a list of IDs.
- Converting a list into a single line for a config value or a command argument.
- Making a list of tags into a single field.
Common mistakes
- Using a separator that appears in the data, producing output that cannot be reliably split again.
- Forgetting that the join removes the line structure permanently. Keep the original if you need it back.
