Reverse Lines
Reverse the order of lines without touching the content on each line.
About this tool
Reverse Lines
Reverse Lines flips the order of lines in a block of text so the last line becomes the first. The lines themselves are unchanged.
How to use it
- Paste your text.
- The reversed order appears immediately.
- Copy the result.
Reversing order, not reversing text
This reverses the sequence of lines. It does not reverse the characters within a line, which is a different operation and rarely what people want.
The most common real use is log files. Most logs append newest entries at the bottom, so reversing gives you newest first without needing a tool that understands timestamps.
Worked example
Reading a log file newest first:
- Input orderoldest entry at the top
- Operationreverse line order
- Line contentsunchanged
Result: Newest entry first, without needing a tool that understands timestamps.
When it helps
- Reading a log file newest first.
- Flipping a chronological list into reverse chronological order.
- Reversing a ranked list to run from lowest to highest.
- Undoing a reversal someone else applied.
Common mistakes
- Expecting character reversal. Line order and character order are separate things.
- Reversing text that has a header row, which ends up at the bottom.
