Why popping is satisfying
The appeal comes from a tight loop of action and feedback: a small deliberate input produces an immediate, definite, irreversible result with a sound. That combination is unusually satisfying, and it is the same loop that makes ticking off a checklist feel good.
Bubble wrap was invented in 1957 as an attempt at textured wallpaper. It failed at that and found its real market in packaging, where the popping was an unintended side effect that turned out to be the memorable part.

When it helps
- A brief distraction between tasks.
- Fidgeting during a call.
- A calming repetitive action.
- Popping bubble wrap without needing a parcel.
Common mistakes
- Doing it on an unmuted call.
- Expecting it to replace a real break. Stepping away from the screen does more.
